Summer Program 2010

Our Summer Program is ready! We will have wet times, stories, crafts, special visits, and lots of fun in the sun. Our topics are as follows:

The topic of the week for the first week of the summer program will be America the Beautiful.  We will be celebrating our nation’s birthday, and Yosi will perform a Patriotic Concert on June 30th at 930am.  Please check out www.yosimusic.com for additional information.
           
The topic for the week of July 5th is The Five Senses.   During this week the children will experience the senses: touch, hearing, taste, sight, and smell.  Each day we will choose one sense to highlight and experience.

Children LOVE dinosaurs!  We have created DINOSAUR week, which is July 12th through 16th.  On July 15th, a “professor” from Mad Science will visit our center.  Our students will become assistant paleontologists with a mini dinosaur dig that will engage their minds and skills. They will then make their own dinosaur tooth to take with them.  Please check out Mad Science’s website at www.madscience.org. Children are encouraged to bring in their dinosaurs from home!

During the week of July 19th, our topic will be Creative Art. This week our children will be creating art projects with all sorts of odds and ends.  Parents MAY have to supply some things from home for this week.

Lions, and tigers and REPTILES?  July 26th will begin our REPTILE and AMPHIBIAN week. We will be visited on July 30th by Silly Billy of the Lizard Guys. Silly Billy will introduce our students to words like camouflage and nocturnal. They will also learn about a day of the animals, such as what they eat & their normal habitat. Our students will learn words like carnivore and herbivore, and he will talk about anatomy (such as forked tongues and scaly skin) and geography (exotic places the animals come from: such as Africa, South America, & Australia).  Silly Billy’s website is www.thelizardguys.com.

Community Helpers are very important figures in our lives. During the week of
August 2nd, we will have visitors come and speak to the children about their professions.  Don’t be surprised if you see a fire truck, ambulance, or police cars in our parking lot this week!

During the week of August 9th, we will learn about BUGS.  There will be a special show on August 10th. Children will be introduced to the wonderful world of insects.  They will learn about their flying abilities, unique eyesight and the way they defend themselves against predators.  They will discover that although insects are seen as pests by many people, they play an essential role in our ecosystem.  Children are encouraged to bring in INSECTS from their homes (secure non breakable containers please).

The week of August 16th our topic of the week will be MAKE AND BAKE.  The children will be making all sorts of EDIBLE concoctions!  We love doing PROJECTS which include EATING! Please notify staff members of any possible allergies.

Our summer program will end on Friday August 27th, but before we say “good bye” to summer, we will have a special program: Magician Bruce Bray (www.brucebraymagic.com)! Bruce’s show is August 24th. His unique blend of kids’ comedy, magic and audience participation will make this program one the children will not forget.  He has a unique ability to connect with the kids and think on their level. 

Everyday we will have a wet activity!   The children will arrive to school in their bathing suits (potty trained only, please). Children must have both a towel and a suit to participate in the “wet” times, each day!  Sunscreen must be provided from home and clearly labeled. For safety reasons, sandals or flip flops without back straps are not permitted.

August 30th through September 6th, Kangaroo Kourt will be closed.  Please save your summer “vacation week” to use during this time (see Registration/Tuition Policy in Parent Handbook).  During this time we will prepare for the school year and the staff will be taking a well-deserved vacation.  Kangaroo Kourt will reopen on Tuesday September 7th for our 2010-2011 school year (our 21st year of operation!!!)
