July 5 Sea Life
July 11 Slimy Creations
July 18 Dinosaurs
July 25 Animals
Aug. 1 Colors
Aug. 8 Make and Eat
Aug. 15 Bugs
Aug. 22 Amphibians and Reptiles

Beachin’ It will be the topic for the first week of the summer program. We will be celebrating how great it is to live at the Jersey Shore. We will also talk about “water safety”.

The topic for the week of July 5th is Sea Life.  We will be closed on July 4th, but the first day back we will have a special program presented by Mad Science.  The children will be introduced to oceanography.  They will discover what sea water is made of and its unique properties.  They will identify creatures by examining our real specimens that inhabit the oceans and learn about some of the characteristics that give them the ability to live under water.  They will build a mini ocean to take home.

SLIMY CREATIONS will be the topic for July 11th.  During this week the children will make different concoctions including different kinds of play dough, mustard and ketchup painting, and paper mache. We might EVEN paint with pudding and marshmallows!

Children LOVE dinosaurs!  We have created DINOSAUR week, which is July 18th through 22nd.   On July 20th, a “professor” from Mad Science will visit our center.  Our students will become assistant paleontologists with a mini dinosaur dig that will engage their minds and skills. They will then make their own dinosaur tooth to take with them.  Please check out Mad Science’s website at www.madscience.org. Children are encouraged to bring in their dinosaurs from home!

During the week of July 25th, our topic will be ANIMALS. This week our children will be creating art projects with all sorts of animals as the topics.  Who knows, maybe we will be visited by a special person from Stafford Vet!

COLORS is the main topic for the week of August 1st.   On August 4th the preschoolers will be introduced to the world of colors as they get their hands into color mixing with liquids and paints.  They will make colorful spin art paintings to take home

During the week of August 8th, the topic will be MAKE AND EAT.  The children will be making all sorts of EDIBLE concoctions!  The children love doing PROJECTS which include EATING! Please notify staff members of any possible allergies.

Creepy, crawly creatures – do we have your attention?  Enter the realm of insects during the week of August 15th when we discover BUGS and learn about their fabulous abilities, unique eyesight, and various ways that bugs defend themselves.  Mad Science will be presenting “Bugs” on August 19th.  Children are encouraged to bring in INSECTS from their homes (secure non breakable containers please).

Our summer program will end on Friday August 26th, but before we say “good bye” to summer, we will have a special program: We will be visited on August 23 at 1:30 pm by Silly Billy of the Lizard Guys.  Silly Billy will introduce our students to words like camouflage and nocturnal. They will also learn about a day of the animals, such as what they eat & their normal habitat. Our students will learn words like carnivore and herbivore, and he will talk about anatomy (such as forked tongues and scaly skin) and geography (exotic places the animals come from: such as Africa, South America, & Australia).  Silly Billy’s website is www.thelizardguys.com.

Everyday we will have a wet activity!   The children will arrive to school in their bathing suits (potty trained children only, please). Children must have both a towel and a suit to participate in the “wet” times, each day!  Sunscreen must be provided from home and clearly labeled. For safety reasons, sandals or flip flops without back straps are not permitted.

August 29th through September 5th, Kangaroo Kourt will be closed.  Please save your summer “vacation week” to use during this time (see Registration/Tuition Policy in Parent Handbook).  During this time we will prepare for the school year and the staff will be taking a well-deserved vacation.  Kangaroo Kourt will reopen on Tuesday September 6th for our 2011-2012 school year (our 22nd year of operation!!!)

All current Kangaroo Kourt clients will be registered for the summer with the same hours they attend now. If you are a new client, or would like to change your child’s hours/days, please return the following form by April 30th.  Thank you
